Budget-Friendly Home Makeover Ideas

When working with a limited budget it's key to incorporate as many of your existing furniture pieces as possible. Re-think getting rid of the sofa, and instead consider purchasing a slipcover. Slipcovers come in many standard sizes, but the best bet is to call the manufacturer of your sofa and see if they still carry slipcovers for your specific model. Many time they won't be listed on websites but are still available.

See a dresser at a thrift store that has seen better days? Don't rule it out. If the size is right and the structure is sound consider spray painting the piece and attaching new hardware. Presto! You have a new piece of furniture for a fraction of the price.

Paint is your friend! Paint is one of the highest impact and least inexpensive ways to spruce up a room. Infuse a bland room with a jolt of color, or consider an accent wall. Don't forget to look for low-VOC or zero-VOC paints, which are much healthier for you and our planet.

Ditch the mini-blinds. If you rent your apartment you may not be able to completely remove your blinds altogether. Instead, pull them up to the top position and purchase drapery panels to frame the window and add softness to the space.

Infuse your blank walls with artwork. Opt for nicely framed prints or posters rather than original pieces, which will set you back a pretty penny. Try framing your children's artwork or a collection of family photographs to create a pleasing display. Group smaller items together for more impact.
